Education can happen for anyone, not just our kids. Unfortunately, today I was the one that received an education on the state of our society. The morning started out great. New coffee maker, breakfast with the kids, then off to school.

Sunshine, wildflowers, great views, alone time - a day hike with my boyfriend at Lake Louise, Sept. 10, was going to be so romantic.

In my opinion, the Stanley Cup is the best trophy in all of sports. Between its history, where it’s been and the legends that have raised it to the sky, it’s hard to find one comparable. Feel free to argue with me. However, NFL fans need not apply.

I think the “mad men” are to blame for our troubles these days. They are the ones who convinced us we need material things to be happy. The “mad men” I refer to are the advertising execs of Madison Avenue.

This past Saturday, I got my very first assignment of the fall/winter season that sent me to the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

It’s back to school time. For my kids, that means an end to late summer nights in the backyard, camping adventures and week-long trips to the farm. For my daughter, there will be no more sleeping in until 11 a.m.

On Aug. 28 at 2:14 p.m., I received a phone call from my cousin, Eva. Getting a call or text message from her is nothing out of the ordinary, given the frequency of such an occurrence, but this day was different.
