First and thirty? Declined penalties? End zones? I just don’t get football.

Since I went back to visit my family in Saskatchewan at the end of November, 2014, I’ve driven more than 6,000 kilometres.

I can certainly relate and respect those professional athletes that have gone through being traded and required to uproot their families on multiple occasions.

It recently occurred to me that I am increasingly out of touch with the youths of today. I no longer recognize the “stars” that grace the cover of the gossip magazines.

Anyone with a beloved pet knows the dreaded feeling of taking the four-legged baby to the vet. It’s an awful feeling. The anxiety, the fear of making a heart-wrenching decisions at the spur of the moment can be overwhelming.

Research. Discovery. Innovation. Progress. It’s how we invented the wheel, and first circumnavigated the globe. It’s how we keep peace and fight disease. It’s how we feed a growing global population projected to reach 9.

Each year, Council sets priorities to guide the business of the City. One of the priorities identified last year was to provide focused customer service, meeting our customer’s needs – your needs – in the most effective ways possible.

Well, that was it. Christmas is quickly becoming a distant memory and 2014 has come and gone.

This is the time of year when I’m especially glad I work out at home instead of going to the gym.

When I was nine-years-old, my parents up and moved my two brothers and I to Germany. My Dad had applied to the Department of a National Defense (DND) and was taking a job as a principal at a Canadian Forces Base school.
