Take the step, put your faith in God

Some weeks ago, I was flying back to Calgary when I came across the last part of that movie, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. As Indiana Jones comes upon the last trial, he pulls up short, only to realize he is at the edge of a deep cavern.

Some weeks ago, I was flying back to Calgary when I came across the last part of that movie, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

As Indiana Jones comes upon the last trial, he pulls up short, only to realize he is at the edge of a deep cavern. How in the world would he cross to the other side?

As his mind wrestles to come up with a solution, it suddenly comes to him that to cross the cavern it would require from him a step of faith. He finds his foot coming down on solid, invisible path to the other side.

We often demonstrate faith and the greater success in life comes when we choose to have faith in God. Faith in God means we rely on Him and depend upon His reliability.

Having faith is realizing that God is bigger than you and I, that He is better and that He loves us greatly. Our problem is we too often rely on ourselves. We like to think we have enough of life together to get ourselves through almost anything. The point of life is not to have faith in ourselves but to have faith in the one who made us. It’s choosing to rely on God’s direction and on who He is. His reliability. He knows what we need and He wants to meet those needs. Those people in Great Britain who are involved in the riots, they have frustrations and deep needs. Unfortunately, we think we know better. . But whether it is rioters in London or ourselves, our actions sometimes cause us to find ourselves on a dead-end street, no further ahead than before.

Can you imagine what you could accomplish in life if you really believed that God is for you? He promises that if you reach out to Him in faith, He will never leave you. With that in mind, let’s get back to faith for a moment. You have some... you practice it every day, you rely on different things. What would happen if you took a deep breath and placed that faith in God?

In The Last Crusade, Indiana Jones did something he likely never did before. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath and stepped forward in faith, relying on something, someone to hold him up.

Faith is relying on God. He wants you to rely on Him. Why not make that choice today.
