Letter: What do council candidates stand for?

With the upcoming election, it occurred to me that I really needed to find out what the current flock of council candidates were all about. It only took me about 10 minutes to get the picture of our current situation.

Re: “Few candidates,” editorial, July 8, Airdrie City View

Dear editor,

If nothing else, I am definitely a concerned Airdrie citizen, having lived here for over 40 years. With the upcoming election, it occurred to me that I really needed to find out what the current flock of council candidates were all about. It only took me about 10 minutes to get the picture of our current situation.

I’m not a happy camper. Not to degrade the individuals who are running, because I know it takes a lot of “get up and go” to let your name stand for office, but if you’re going to step onto the diving board, at the very least put your full and honest platform out there so the voters have a clue of what you stand for.

These are extraordinary times we live in. It’s more important now perhaps than previous Airdrie elections to vote in strong candidates. If you can’t clearly spell out your platform, perhaps you should not be running.

Heck, maybe I should run for council instead, because I care about this community and the people in it – and believe me, I’ll tell it like it is.
