Letter: Speak to your doctor about COVID-19 vaccines

Dear Editor, We understand the debate around vaccines in Airdrie has become more polarized. We understand many people in our community are getting vaccinated but many still have questions about the vaccines.

Dear Editor,

We understand the debate around vaccines in Airdrie has become more polarized.

We understand many people in our community are getting vaccinated but many still have questions about the vaccines. We hear concerns about safety, effectiveness and side effects.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult on all of us. As front-line health-care workers, we have been in the unfortunate position of caring for many patients who have succumbed to this preventable virus.

As local health experts and with decades of medical experience evaluating new treatments and practicing evidence-based medicine, we would encourage the people of Airdrie to speak to their family doctors about the vaccine.

Making informed evidence-based and well-researched decisions is why a patient has a family doctor. The same way we evaluate high blood pressure treatment, tetanus immunization and a host of other interventions, we will review with an individual patient the risks and benefits of a vaccine. That way, our patients can make an informed decision with the best data possible from an unbiased and trusted source.
