Letter: Newspaper shouldn't promote helmet-less skateboarding

Dear editor, I was so upset after seeing a picture of a young person skateboarding without a helmet on the front page of the Airdrie City View a few weeks ago.

Dear editor,

I was so upset after seeing a picture of a young person skateboarding without a helmet on the front page of the Airdrie City View a few weeks ago. As Airdrie's primary newspaper, one would assume that your paper would accept responsibility for publishing correct information. Helmets have been mandated for skateboarding since last October.

Not only is it a law to wear a helmet, but not wearing one when skateboarding has the potential to result in a serious head injury or concussion. Shame on you for promoting helmet-less skateboarding on the front page.

Perhaps instead the newspaper should consider educating the community about the seriousness of concussions. You would be providing a great service to all.

Thank you for allowing me to express my disappointment with your oversight.
