Dear editor,

It was refreshing to read about the judge’s ruling on the County’s case against Coun. Samanntha Wright. I was so happy to see justice served.

I always felt that council was not acting in the best interest of the residents but rather their own self-interests as an attempt to get rid of someone who frequently challenges their position. It was great to see the judge also saw that reality.

From the start, I have been most dismayed by comments from our reeves. Be it Reeve Henn or Boehlke, their comments always condemned Wright while completely ignoring their own behaviour – behaviour that, in my opinion, was nothing short of bullying.

The judge said Wright made an honest mistake, but the same can’t be said of the council majority. Instead, the judge concluded they were driven by political spite.

The continued waste of taxpayers' money to pay for legal battles needs to stop, and the judge’s ruling in this case was a step in the right direction. But to really correct things, the six councillors who were in the wrong, along with Former CAO Al Hoggan, (who let all this happen under his watch) should have to put their hands in their own pockets and pay back all the money they have spent on this legal farce. Would they have been so cavalier with our money if they knew they would have to pay personally afterward? I don’t think so.

The election is in October and we all need to make sure our voices are heard through our votes. And, if Coun. Wright reads this, while I totally understand why she wouldn’t want to run again, I really hope she will. Our county and the world need more people like her.
