Dear editor,

I think it would be prudent for your readers and the Airdrie community to know that the senior who was attacked by the dog while riding his bike (as reported in your July 7 edition) was not the only victim of an attack by a dog in that area.

I was riding my bike to work in the early morning hours a few weeks ago when two dogs came running toward me. When I heard the owner frantically call their names, I knew there might be an issue.

I know dogs like to chase bikes, so I stopped right away and straddled my bike as I tried to calm the first dog that approached. He growled and latched onto my arm, ripping my jacket and pulling me to the ground. I continuously spoke gently to the two dogs as I picked myself up off the ground. The owner finally caught up and asked if I was okay. I was a little shocked and said, "Yeah, I think so."

It wasn't until later that I realized I wasn't okay, as I stretched a ligament as I fell to the ground and it still causes me pain. I am also fearful of travelling the same path and have taken a different route ever since.

Also, the day prior to this incident, I passed a group of daycare children walking the same path. I would feel awful if I did not take the time to mention this incident and then later hear a child was injured by the same dog along this path.

Thank you for letting your readers know about these types of incidents.
