Good news: God says you are lovable

Have you ever come across something that you thought was so amazing that you just had to tell someone? But then you are amazed again to discover that the other person you told was less than impressed.

Have you ever come across something that you thought was so amazing that you just had to tell someone? But then you are amazed again to discover that the other person you told was less than impressed. You wonder, “How can this person not see how amazing this is?”

A man read an ad in the newspaper, “Hunting Dog For Sale, $2,500.00, but well worth it.” He called the number and arranged for an early morning hunting trip to see the dog in action. The next morning the dog flushed two birds from a clump of bushes and when they fell into the water, he walked on top of the water, grabbed the birds, and walked back on top of the water. The man was amazed, and bought the dog on the spot. The next day he got his brother to go hunting with him. They flushed a couple of birds and the dog again walked on top of the water, retrieved the birds, and walked back to their boat on top of the water. The man asked his brother what he thought of the dog and the brother replied, “So you bought a dog who can’t swim.”

Sometimes we are the ones that are less than amazed. But here something that I hope will amaze you – God says you are lovable.

This is very important because we will have a hard time loving other people if you do not feel lovable. Listen to what God says in Isaiah 54:10 – “The mountains and hills may crumble, but my love for you will never end, so says the Lord who loves you.”

This verse tells us two things:

• First, God loves you consistently. He doesn’t love you one day and then the next decide not to. He doesn’t just love you when you do all the right things but then not love you when you do not. Maybe you have someone in your life right now who loves you inconsistently. Maybe it’s a parent, a spouse or your friend. One of my children has a friend who loves her one day but then the next ignores her. God is not like that. God is always 100 per cent consistent in His love for you.

• The other thing this verse tells us is that God loves you unconditionally. He says, “I will always love you and it’s unconditional. You don’t have to go out and earn it.” He does not say, “I’ll love you ‘if’ you’re good” or “I’ll love you if you do this and this” or “I love you because you have this certain look or you do these things.”

A little girl came home from school crying. When her dad asked her what was wrong the little girl said, “Tori said she would only be my friend if I sat beside her on the bus.” Conditions on friendship. Do people do that to you when you cannot fulfill a condition? But God says, “that’s not how I love you. I love you consistently and unconditionally.” You never have to wake up some morning and ask, “God, are you going to love me today? Did I read my Bible? Did I pray enough?” God loves you no matter who you are or what you do.

You may ask, “what will happen if I accept God’s love for me?”

Daniel 10:19 says, “God loves you, so don’t let anything worry you or frighten you.”

Does that comfort you? I know it comforts me. When I discover I do not have to worry or be afraid of anything, then I am not only free to love others but to live life fully. I can even take the time to discover the other ways God thinks about me. I hope you will do the same.
