This week's issue marks a special milestone for the Airdrie City View, as the newspaper celebrated its 20th anniversary this past week.

The City View first landed on Airdronians' porches on March 5, 2002. Twenty years later, the paper is still being delivered city-wide to thousands of Airdrie residents every Thursday.

We are excited to mark this week's issue with a special section dedicated to our 20-year anniversary. The section features a story on the history of the paper, a column from publisher Cameron Christianson – who has been here since the beginning – as well as interviews with three of our former editors, who recounted their most significant memories from their time working here and the local stories that still stick out to them years later.

It's an understatement to say that newspapers have changed a lot in the last 20 years, and the print medium will continue to face challenges and adaptation as the media landscape embraces digitalization more and more in the years to come.

A lot has happened in Airdrie in the last 20 years, and our newsroom's reporters have been right there to document the city's story – both the good and the bad.

In a community that is a stone's throw away from a large urban centre, it's imperative for a fast-growing community like Airdrie to have its own local news sources. While news stories in Airdrie often run the risk of being drowned out by the city's much-larger neighbour to the south, Airdrie residents still want to know what is happening in their local community.

What did City council vote on last Monday? What is Bert Church LIVE Theatre's next production going to be? Did the Airdrie Thunder win their last game? Is the RCMP doing anything to stop all the speeding on 8 Street?

That's where we come in.

Thank you to our readers for continuing to support the work we do. We love telling Airdrie's story and look forward to doing so for years to come.
