Canada's Caeli McKay, Vincent Riendeau win bronze in 10-metre synchro platform

KAZAN, Russia — Canadians Caeli McKay and Vincent Riendeau earned a bronze medal in the mixed 10-metre synchro platform on Saturday at the FINA Diving World Series.

The duo scored 312.42 points to reach the podium, finishing just behind North Korea's Hyon Il Myong and Jo Jin Mi for silver (314.28).

China's Duan Yu and Zhang Minjie won the event easily with 339.42 points.

"Vince and I are really happy, especially since this is only our second event together," said Calgary's McKay. "We fit very well as a team and I think being so close outside of diving really helps with our communication and teamwork in this event."

The 19-year-old McKay and Riendeau, 22, needed their final dive to overtake Russia's Nikita Shleikher and Iuliia Timoshinina for the last spot on the podium.

"Caeli and I are both quite satisfied with our second performance together. We changed a dive in our list... which adds to our total degree of difficulty. We think it paid off today and we're looking forward to competing again," said Riendeau, from Beaconsfield, Que.
