Canada loses to Oman in ICC World Cricket League Division 2 play

WINDHOEK, Namibia — Canada fell to 0-2 in ICC World Cricket League Division 2 play Sunday, losing by 99 runs to Oman.

The top four teams in the six-team tournament will earn one-day international status and join Scotland, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates in the newly formed ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 where they will play 36 ODIs each over a two-and-a-half year period.

The bottom two will enter the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Challenge League A and B.

After winning the toss, Canada put Oman into bat at Affies Park. Canada's bowlers were stymied as Aqib Ilyas and captain Zeeshan Maqsood combined for a third-wicket partnership of 126 before Ilyas was caught and bowled for 86 by Navneet Dhaliwal.

Maqsood made 109 from just 102 balls, with nine fours and four sixes, before being dismissed by Romesh Eranga with three balls left in the innings.

Oman finished at 285-7.

Canada's start at bat was rough with Ruvindu Gunasekera caught behind off the second ball of the innings. No. 3 batsman Nitish Kumar made 57 but the Canadians were 186 all out after 43.2 overs.

Canada, which lost to Hong Kong by seven wickets in its opener, faces Namibia (1-1) on Tuesday.
