Edmonton residents arrested by Maidstone RCMP on drug, weapons charges, make court appearances

Two Edmonton residents arrested by Maidstone RCMP last month remain in custody on weapons and drug charges.

Manal Ali Fawaz, 25, and Garnett O’Connor, 23, made second court appearances in Lloydminster Provincial Court March 10. The two are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a firearm while prohibited, carrying a concealed weapon, and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

They were arrested on Feb. 27 after RCMP stopped them for travelling 174 km/hr in a 110 km/hr speed zone on Hwy 16.

Police say that after verbal interactions with the female driver, they started a drug investigation and obtained a search warrant. When they searched the vehicle, they found a loaded pistol and 370 grams of suspected crack cocaine in four vacuum sealed bags.

The two have been remanded in custody since their arrest. Fawaz has a bail hearing on March 13 and O’Connor reappears the same day to speak to his charges.
