It should be a racquet this weekend in the capital for two-dozen local students.

The 2024 Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association Provincial Badminton Championships run May 3-4 at Edmonton’s Saville Community Sport Centre with 24 athletes from Okotoks, Foothills and High River area schools punching their ticket to the finals.

The Edison Eagles, proverbial powers in the sport, will be pursuing a 12th consecutive 1A banner in the team competition.

The Eagles have a 10-athlete contingent which includes Efe Koksal, Ata Koksal, Aniket Korotane, Lauren Maheux, Saffi Malmqvist-Lund, Shamiksha Sahoo, Edgar Skliarov, Eugene Sun, Jasmine Toukabri and Ben Zwanepoel.

Strathcona-Tweedsmuir had five athletes qualify for provincials.

The Spartans entries include Amy Ding, Veer Kadam, Michael Liu, Avinash Murthy and Isabelle Rutz.

The Holy Trinity Academy Knights will see four compete in Edmonton.

Jacques Henning, Ian Henning, Sam Stadynk and Sarah Joy will be representing the Knights.

Across town at the Comp, Sydney Neukom and Mya Neukom make up the Foothills Composite Falcons contingent.
