Mixed start to season for AC Avalanche

Four games into the 2019-20 season, the Airdrie-Cochrane (AC) Avalanche was in ninth place of the south division of the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League (AMMHL) with a 1-2-1 record.

The Cochrane-based AAA minor midget team's most recent battle, Oct. 8, was a 3-2 loss to the Calgary Northstars Canucks at the Max Bell Centre. Riley Westlund put the Avalanche in front in the first period, but the home team responded with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead into the second period.

The Canucks extended its lead to 3-1 in the second stanza.

In the third period, Noah Edstrom scored his third goal – and fourth point – of the season off an assist from Colton Alexander, to bring the Avalanche within one. Despite a spirited finish, however, AC could not mount the comeback.

The Avalanche was back in action Oct. 12 and 13 for games against the Calgary Royals Blue and the SEAC Tigers of Medicine Hat.
