A slate of ringette events in Airdrie that would have taken place March 13 to 15 have been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the Alberta Government's mandate to cancel public gatherings of more than 250 people.

"Ringette Alberta is cancelling all Ringette Alberta sanctioned events, including provincial championships, regionals, practices and exhibition games until further notice, effective 10:00 AM, March 13, 2020," read a statement from Ringette Alberta. "We will continue to monitor the situation as time and the information progresses."

The cancelled local events include the Airdrie Ringette Association's (ARA) Ring of Fire (ROF) tournament and the U14A provincial championships, as well as a free come-try-it event at Genesis Place Recreation Centre.

"We understand that this is a disappointing end to the season, but the health and safety of our members is of the utmost importance," the statement read. "Thank you to our host associations, volunteers and ringette members for their hard work, dedication and time spent this season."

Though the risk level in Alberta for contracting COVID-19 remains low, Ringette Alberta urges residents to practice safe hygiene and risk mitigation to keep everyone safe.
