Highlanders compete at 2019 Stampede Sevens

The Airdrie Highlanders Athletic Association fielded three teams at the 2019 Stampede Sevens rugby tournament July 5 and 6 in Calgary. The annual tournament – one of the most popular rugby sevens tournaments in Canada, according to organizers – featured 70 teams, competing in a variety of age groups and divisions.

The Highlanders Smoke Show men's team fared the best of the three Airdrie squads, ending the tournament with one win, one loss and one tie in the Men's Social C division. The Hammered Highlanders women's team finished with three losses and a tie in the Women's Social A division.

For the Highlanders Youngins junior women's team, which featured mostly high-school-aged players from Airdrie, the tournament was a learning experience. The U18 team lost all three of its games without scoring a try, but for many of the players, it was their first competitive fixtures.
