GALLERY: Cavaliers down Mustangs as high-school basketball season resumes in Airdrie

Croxford is still unbeaten in the RVSA, having outscored opponents 193-80 in their three regular-season games.

After a two-week hiatus over the holidays, senior high-school basketball returned to Airdrie on Jan. 10, with the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers senior girls' team hosting the George McDougall Mustangs.

The host Cavaliers won the game 65-45 to maintain their unbeaten record in the Rocky View Sports Association (RVSA). Croxford is now 3-0 in the division, having outscored opponents 193-80 in those three games.

George McDougall, with the defeat, dropped down to third place in the seven-team league with a 1-2 record. The Mustangs have been outscored 147-153 in their three games.

Also on Jan. 10 on the other side of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway in Airdrie, the Bert Church Chargers senior girls' team hosted the Chestermere Lakers and won 54-49. It was Bert Church's first win of the regular season after they lost their first two games in December.

The RVSA senior boys' league still hasn't resumed, but all three Airdrie teams will be back in action on Jan. 17. The Cavaliers (2-0 this season) will face off against the Mustangs (0-2) at George McDougall's gymnasium, while the Chargers (1-1) will head southeast to face the Chestermere Lakers. It will be the only regular-season games of the month for all three Airdrie senior boys' teams in the RVSA.

As for the senior girls teams, their regular-season schedule will not resume until Jan. 31 due to diploma exams being written later this month.

RVSA senior basketball games tend to take place on Tuesday evenings, with jump-ball at 7:45 p.m. The senior games are preceded by the junior varsity teams from the same schools. Schedules and scores can be found at rvsa.rockyview.ab.ca

As for Airdrie's sole Catholic high school, the St. Martin de Porres Kodiaks compete in Division 3 of the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association. As of Jan. 11, the senior girls are sporting a .500 record (2-2) while the senior boys are 1-1 as of the same date, following an 89-62 defeat to Bishop Carroll on Jan. 10.
