Bisons unbeaten in three games in AMHL

The Airdrie CFR Chemical Bisons proved its first win of the season Nov. 23 was no fluke, earning three points over the Nov. 30 weekend with a pair of positive results in the Alberta AAA Midget Hockey League (AMHL).

Six days after defeating the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers 2-1, Airdrie’s top midget team secured its second win of the 2019-20 campaign Nov. 30, claiming victory over the CAC Gregg Distributors, 4-3 at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

“We know our record doesn’t really reflect the team we are,” said 17-year-old defenseman JT Luterbach. “This last weekend, and the weekend before, we really showed who we can be, and played to our strengths. We’ve been able to capitalize, and it’s been nice to peel off those wins.”

Airdrie followed the win with another positive home result – a 2-2 draw Dec. 1 against the South Side Athletic Club Athletics. Shaw Cathcart and James Quaiffe tallied for the Bisons.

Now unbeaten in its last three games, the team is rocking a 2-13-2 record. Despite still occupying the bottom of the AMHL Chrysler South Division, Airdrie has reduced the gap between itself and the seventh-placed Calgary Northstars to seven points.

The Bisons will have the chance to chip away at the deficit with a key home game Dec. 7 against the Northstars. The game will kick off at 7:15 p.m. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.
