Bert Church hosts invitational basketball tournament

Bert Church High School hosted the annual Bert Church Invitational senior boys' and girls' basketball tournament Dec. 12 to 14, with competing teams travelling to Airdrie from across Alberta and Saskatchewan.

On the boys' side, the Bert Church Chargers made it to the championship game before losing Dec. 14 to Stirling School. Earlier that afternoon, the Chargers girls' team lost to the Tommy Douglas Collegiate Tigers, a team from Saskatoon, in the fifth-place consolation game.

W.H. Croxford also fielded its two senior teams in the tournament. The Cavaliers girls placed second, losing to Notre Dame in the gold-medal game, while the boys won the seventh-place consolation game over Tommy Douglas Collegiate.

Airdrie was well-represented in the girls' tournament, with George McDougall and St. Martin de Porres also fielding teams.
