Concern over a new tree disease has been increasing across the province in the past few years, according to a commercial horticulture specialist.

Rolly Ashdown was acclaimed to the position of reeve of Rocky View County at the municipality’s annual organizational meeting, Oct. 25. “It’s an honour to continue in this role,” he said.

After eight years of service, Beiseker Councillor Brenda Hnybida has resigned for personal and health reasons. A letter announcing Hnybida’s resignation was made public at a regular council meeting in the village, Oct. 24.

Several County councillors are hosting Town Hall meetings in the coming weeks, seeking to connect with local residents on a number of issues.

The Rocky View Weekly has learned that Rocky View County has purchased a 1956 pick-up truck for restoration. Once the vehicle is restored, it will be used for councillors to drive in parades and County events.

Bruce Rowe will retain his seat as mayor of Beiseker because he was acclaimed for the 2011-2012 term of council. Councillor Ray Courtman will remain as deputy mayor.

One person is dead following a single vehicle rollover near on Highway 1 near Cochrane on Oct. 23. Cochrane RCMP responded to a call at 6:30 p.m. about the rollover at the highway’s intersection with Range Road 33.
