Airdrie kids will have the opportunity to use the city's public transportation free of charge this summer.
From July 1 to August 31, youth under the age of 18 will be able to ride local transit buses for free, according to the City of Airdrie
“This initiative was approved by council in November 2018, to encourage youth to explore their community and experience Airdrie Transit,” said Airdrie Transit Team Leader Chris MacIsaac. “With a stop at Genesis Place and a host of youth-oriented programs in July and August, this change will make it even easier to stay active this summer.”
The offer follows a highly successful initiative to reduce youth monthly passes from $47.50 to $25 earlier in 2018, which, according to the City, increased the annual sales of the passes by approximately 30 per cent.
“We believe this offering will be equally successful and aligns with the City’s mandate to become a more youth-friendly community,” MacIsaac said.
In general, the City said, the Airdrie Transit system is proving to be a popular option for local residents, regardless of age. There has been a 27 per cent increase in local ridership since 2018, according to the municipality.
