Three schools in Rocky View School (RVS) school division have reported cases of COVID-19 since classes began at the beginning of September.

According to RVS, W.H. Croxford High School in Airdrie, Sarah Thompson School in Langdon and Prince of Peace Lutheran School near Chestermere have each been impacted by a positive case of the virus.

"In each of these schools, a single case of COVID-19 has been identified," Superintendent Greg Luterbach said in a statement.

For privacy reasons, RVS has not disclosed information about the individuals impacted at each school, and Luterbach did not indicate whether students or staff members tested positive.

The division provided general information to each school community, he said, as well as additional information to individuals who may have been in close contact with anyone who tested positive in the schools.

"Alberta Health Services (AHS) has also been in contact with these individuals to provide information on the length of the required isolation and to encourage testing," Luterbach said. "The school buildings have undergone a thorough deep clean with additional sanitization in impacted areas.

According to a letter from W.H. Croxford to parents, the high school was notified by AHS of the positive case in its community Sept. 9. Three staff members and around 40 students were asked to isolate, Luterbach said. All have since returned to school.

In Langdon, 22 students from Sarah Thompson and 9 from Langdon School were told to isolate, as they shared the bus with the person who tested positive. Five staff members from Sarah Thompson were also told to stay home.

Prince of Peace was notified of the positive case in its community Sept. 21, according to a letter to parents. Seven staff members and 27 students from Prince of Peace, meanwhile, were told to isolate.

"The safety and well-being of our students and staff is at the heart of everything we do and we are working closely with AHS to ensure the necessary precautions are taken to limit the spread," Luterbach said.

"RVS' thoughts are with our school communities and families as we work through this together. We look forward to welcoming our students and staff back to school when everyone is well and on the advice of AHS."

Per the parent letters sent from W.H Croxford and Prince of Peace, families are reminded not to send their children to school if they are ill. Families should also complete a daily self-assessment available at rockyview.ab.ca and students should stay home if they answer "yes" to any of the questions in the checklist.
