Kevin Sorenson cruised in a snoozer of an election, securing 84 per cent of the vote in his Crowfoot riding.
The Conservative incumbent has never received less than 70 per cent support in his four previous elections. Meanwhile his Liberal opponents have failed to earn more than 25 per cent of votes in the riding’s history.
“It’s a conservative riding,” said Sorenson. “I work hard, I always try to serve with dignity and integrity. It’s not about me, they love our Prime Minister out here. They said no to the increased taxes of NDP and Liberals… and yes to our Prime Minister and the roadmap he’s laid out for Canadians.”
Sorenson beat four-time NDP candidate Ellen Parker who finished second with nine per cent of the vote. Konrad Schellenberg of the Green Party came in second and Liberal Omar Harb placed third. Independent John C. Turner and Christian Heritage Party candidate Gerard Groenendijk finished fourth and fifth respectively, both failing to register 500 votes.
With a majority win, Sorenson said it’s time for the Conservative party to get back to work on fixing the economy.
“We’ve got to get back a (balanced) budget and continue to move us to lead us globally,” said Sorenson. “I’m looking forward to (ending) the gun registry and more debate on the wheat board.”
Now, with a new official Opposition in the NDP, Sorenson is eagerly anticipating future debate.
“It’s going to be a real choice for Canadians,” said Sorenson. “They’re going to see the philosophy of a socialist NDP government and the philosophy of a fiscally conservative government in power.”
