Rocky View County council made changes to its snowplowing policy at its regular meeting, May 11.
Snow management will be prioritized in the following manner:
• All arterial roads;
• All collector roads;
• All local roads including driveways identified as medical emergency access routes;
• All hard-surfaced sidewalks within road allowances controlled by the County;
• Unmaintained road allowances used for agricultural purposes, which will receive snow management on a per request basis as equipment and resources are available.
In addition, council clarified its policy regarding windrows left by snowplows and graders.
The statement now reads: “Although operators will try to mitigate the size of the windrows wherever possible, it is not expected that the County will at any time remove the windrows or plow the approaches.”
Further, the policy now states that claims won’t be considered by the County for damage to structures or vegetation on private property or vehicles as a result of snow or sanding material coming off the snow plows or sanding operations.
In addition, under the new wording of the policy, the County may plow driveways for residents requiring emergency medical access.
Council proclaimed the week of June 7-13 to be Senior’s Week in Rocky View County. This will coincide with Alberta Seniors’ Week, a weeklong celebration of the contributions and involvement of seniors across the province.
Senior week will include an event at Airdrie’s Over 50 Club, located at 275 Jensen Drive, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., June 9. The celebration, sponsored by North Rocky View Community Links, will include live music, a cake cutting and door prizes.
Chestermere is hosting a Community Services sponsored event on June 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Town of Chestermere Municipal Building, located at 105 Marina Road.
The evening will include a free information night with a presentation by ElderWise Inc.

Council passed a bylaw allowing Our Lady Queen of Peace Ranch, located northwest of the Wintergreen Golf Course at Bragg Creek, to build a new camp house and renovate bunkhouses.
The camp is a non-profit organization that provides physically, mentally, financially and emotionally challenged children with a free camp experience. It has been in operation since 1989.
