Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for RVC, Airdrie

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Airdrie and parts of Rocky View County, including Crossfield, Bottrel, Madden and Cochrane.

According to a press release from Environment Canada, "Conditions are favourable for the development of a dangerous thunderstorms, capable of producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain."

“Thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and persist into this evening,” the release stated. “Watches may be expanded eastward later this afternoon.”

Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause injury, according to the release. Environment Canada suggests being prepared for severe weather and to take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
