At a regular meeting April 30, Rocky View County (RVC) unanimously approved a site-specific amendment to a direct control bylaw, which will allow for 92 mini-storage units on a site at the northeast junction of Highway 22 and Highway 567, north of Cochrane.

“The property has been used for RV campground and storage for over 10 years,” said planner Xin Deng.

After enforcement services received a complaint regarding unshielded lighting fixtures on the property, they discovered the storage units were being used without a development permit. Deng said approving the amendment would be the first step toward bringing the site into compliance, and the application met all relevant policies.

After the applicant, Sean Veraart, confirmed he was looking at options to replace the lights that prompted the original complaint, Area Coun. Crystal Kissel moved to approve the application.

“I believe this issue will be dealt with, and that the neighbours will be happy with the result,” she said.
