The Calgary West and Cochrane Rotary Clubs are sponsoring a new Habitat For Humanity home that began with a Dec. 4 kickoff event.
Twenty members from the two Rotaries and four students from the Cochrane High Interact Club, a local youth club, participated.
The project, located on Pope Avenue and Sibbald Street in Cochrane, is the first of two five-townhouse units being built in conjunction with Habitat For Humanity and will wrap up in April.
“What I really enjoy about this is working with other clubs and getting things done for the community,” said Derek Begin, president of Cochrane’s Rotary Club.
“It’s something that we needed.”
When Calgary West approached the Cochrane club to see if it would be interested, members jumped at the chance.
“We’re working on these five units to get this built and we think it’s a great project for the community,” said Begin.
“It was very well received by our members because they wanted to go out and do something.”
Upcoming build days are Jan. 15, Feb. 12, March 9 and 30 and April 13 and the first phase is expected to finish at the end of April.
Habitat for Humanity is a not-for-profit, faith-based organization helping families in need build affordable housing.
