A Calgary man faces nine Criminal Code charges after Airdrie RCMP seized drugs and a sawed-off shotgun during a traffic stop Sept. 18.
According to a press release, the traffic stop occurred around 3:15 a.m. near Century Downs Racetrack and Casino in Balzac. During the stop, the officer made observations that led to an arrest for drug possession.
“A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest resulted in the seizure of what is believed to be methamphetamine along with an assortment of drug paraphernalia,” the release said. "Members located a 20-gauge Mossberg shotgun that had been modified by cutting off the stock and a portion of the barrel.”
Colin Stanley Hetherington, 36, has been charged with one count of possession of a prohibited weapon, one count of possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a controlled substance.
According to the release, a sawed-off shotgun is considered a prohibited weapon.
Hetherington will be appearing in Airdrie Provincial Court Oct. 15.
