The Airdrie RCMP is asking for the public’s help in preventing thefts from construction sites.

On Nov. 2 at about 10:30 p.m., Airdrie RCMP received a complaint of a man stealing insulation from a house under construction.

A witness observed the suspect loading insulation into his trailer and immediately called police. Officers attended the Baywater neighbourhood in Airdrie and arrested Kelly Cardinal, a-35-year-old man from Calgary.

Cardinal has been charged with possession of stolen property, two counts of break and enter and theft under $5,000. He was released on a cash recognizance and will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on Nov. 18.

On the same day, police were notified of about $10,000 worth of siding that was stolen from a construction site in the Kings Heights area.

“With the city of Airdrie’s rapid growth there are multiple job sites within the city limits,” said Cst. Rob Frizzell of the Airdrie RCMP.

“Police believe that an unknown person or persons have been targeting these construction supplies from job sites during the night.”

Police are asking anyone who sees suspicious activity at any job site to call the Airdrie RCMP or Crime Stoppers. Suspicious activity could include but is not limited to:

• Unknown vehicles parked at construction sites at odd hours.

• Unknown vehicles driving around construction sites aimlessly at odd hours.

• Lights on in construction sites after regular working hours.

• People moving construction supplies at night.

If you have any information regarding any unsolved crime, contact the Airdrie RCMP at 403-945-7200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
