Operation Klepto has concluded with five arrests and more than 30 charges being levied against the accused.
The investigation looked into a string of thefts in the Airdrie area.
Through a partnering between the Calgary Serious Habitual Offender Program Unit and the RCMP, numerous items of personal property have been returned to owners.
Bryan Huges, 19; Justin Scott, 19; Kyla Sanderson, 18; Jesse Soderstrom, 19, and Jonathan Kublik, 32, were arrested in relation to the crimes.
“Over a dozen targets were identified and large amounts of man hours were dedicated to conducting surveillance, interviews, exhibit collection, and arresting targets,” said Cst. Alvin Tang, of the Airdrie RCMP general investigation section.
“Having dedicated investigators to look into these connected occurrences is a real asset to the city.”
On Sept. 17 at 1 p.m., Strathmore RCMP attended a complaint near Conrich after contractors reported a man entering a neighbouring residence and stealing a compressor tank.
After being confronted at a property near Conrich, a man began waving a large hunting knife at witnesses before police came and arrested the man.
A later search uncovered brass knuckles and a number of knives.
Darryl Edward Weatherly, 46, of the Conrich area, is charged with seven offences including assault with a weapon, uttering threats, break and enter and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
RCMP are warning parents to keep a vigilant eye on their children after there was a report of a man attempting to lure a child into his truck in Airdrie.
After a boy was dropped off by his mother at school, a man asked the boy to get into his vehicle before the boy walked into the school.
Police are calling this an isolated incident and said the community isn’t in immediate danger.
The suspicious man was said to be driving a blue truck.
RCMP are encouraging parents to educate their children about strangers and what to do if they are approached by someone they do not recognize.
“Develop a list of ‘strangers and friends’ and talk about what to do in the event you are approached by a stranger to help them understand who is safe to speak and engage with,” said Cst. Rob Frizzell.
On Sept. 23 at 1:45 a.m., Strathmore RCMP responded to a call of a possible break and enter in progress at a business in Langdon.
While travelling southbound on Highway 797, an officer pulled out into the left lane to pass a vehicle.
The civilian’s vehicle then began turning left, struck the officer’s car and sent the cruiser into the ditch.
Nobody was hurt and a collision analyst attended the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Unknown suspects were reportedly throwing rocks at cars on Brent Boulevard in Strathmore, at Sept. 23 at 10:40 p.m.
Two vehicles sustained damage to their hoods and windshields. The suspects remain at large.
Strathmore RCMP were dispatched to a complaint on Sept. 22 at 8 a.m. of stolen goods from a vehicle in a rural area outside the town.
Cabinets were pried open on the vehicle and numerous tools and a quantity of copper wire were stolen.
Currently, investigators are analyzing shoe prints for further examination and comparison.
