Two men have been charged after forcibly confining a man and woman in an Airdrie residence.

According to a press release from Airdrie RCMP, the detachment responded to a complaint of a recovered stolen vehicle around 1:30 a.m. on Sept. 13. Upon arriving at a residence where the stolen vehicle was located, police determined a man and woman were being held against their will.

"Police containment was set up and a short time later two suspects were arrested without incident," the release stated. "Both victims were scared but unharmed."

A preliminary investigation suggested the incident was a direct result of those involved being associated with the illicit drug trade, the release said.

After a search of the residence, police recovered a loaded .45 calibre handgun.

"One of the suspects was also taken to hospital as a precaution as approximately one ounce of what is believed to be fentanyl and a half-ounce of methamphetamine drugs were seized from their person," the release stated.

Abdal-Majid Fares, 31, of Calgary now faces 11 Criminal Code charges, including two counts of adult forcible confinement, two counts of uttering threats against a person, three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of resisting/obstructing a peace officer, one count of possession of property obtained by crime and one count of failure to comply with release conditions.

Fares has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court Sept. 28.

Meanwhile, Mark Hurdon, 29, of Winnipeg has been charged with four Criminal Code charges, including two counts of adult forcible confinement and one count each of resisting/obstructing a peace officer and possession of property obtained by crime. He has also been remanded into custody and will appear in Airdrie Provincial Court Sept. 17.
