After one term, incumbent Irricana councillor Lisa Constantini is seeking re-election on Oct. 18.
Constantini is proud of what has been accomplished during the past term, but says there is still a lot of work to be done.
“As a taxpayer, I feel there are a lot of issues still needing to be tackled,” said Constantini, who has lived in the town for 10 years.
“And I am having a blast.”
Constantini has served on numerous boards such as the Community Services board, the Irricana Hall board, the Irricana Library board and the East Rocky View Recreational board.
As a member of the Emergency Management board, which was set up during her term, Constantini helped create a response plan for the town.
“Let’s face it, we have had tornadoes very close to us, we have some major structural fires in town...and you need to be prepared to better deal with (that type of emergency),” said Constantini.
“We have made the Emergency Management Plan better so if there is a major disaster we can be better prepared.”
Constantini, a mother of two, has also been an active volunteer for numerous town events.
If re-elected, Constantini said she would continue to seek further recreational opportunities for families and youth in Irricana.
She would also work towards getting more residential and commercial development in town.
“I am definitely interested in seeing the town grow…to help offset out taxes,” said Constantini, who works in health services as a lab technologist.
Constantini said, if re-elected, she would continue to look for solutions to high water and tax rates for residents.
According to Constantini, she has several key characteristics that make her a good councillor, including the ability to speak her mind, formulate her own opinions and listen.
“I am very open and I hope I am approachable,” said Constantini. “ I am a voice of the people.”
Constantini is optimistic about Irricana’s future, saying it will likely grow and be prosperous.
“I love Irricana,” said Constantini. “It is a friendly community, it is quiet…without the big hustle and bustle of the city.”
