Beiseker council is organizing the meeting, hoping to convince the Province to address high water rates being paid by commission members. All residents, including rural neighbours, are encouraged to attend.

The Comission’s member municipalities include Carbon, Linden, Acme, Beiseker, Irricana, Rocky View County and Kneehill County with a combined population of about 40,000.

Council unanimously approved its Municipal Sustainability Plan (MSP). Copies of it are now online, or can be purchased at the Town office. Chief Administrative Officer Carol White informed council that a copy of the MSP, along with the new Municipal Development Plan, new Land Use Bylaw and Growth Study will be offered to the Irricana Library for residents to check out.

Council has instructed the Town’s lawyer to send a formal notice to developers of the Westmont/Saddle Creek. The notice will inform the developers that they are in default of the following provisions of their agreement with the Town:

1) Clause 3 requires all works to be completed in accordance with the Town’s development standards;

2) Clause 32 requires the control of the storm water runoff, sedimentation and erosion within the development area during the development of the development area; and

3) Clause 187 requires payment for engineering costs incurred by the Town in the completion of the Development Agreement, and any other clauses that legal counsel deems appropriate.

Okotoks’ Town council is planning to introduce a motion at the fall session of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA), requesting the Province introduce a rebate program for the purchase and installation of renewable micro-generation energy technologies. Council unanimously agreed to endorse this motion.

• White informed council that the campground tree removal program is progressing around the rainy weather and some ‘at risk’ trees are being removed or trimmed.

• A new tri-mower attachment for the Town tractor is working very well and staff members are able to cut large areas of grass much quicker, freeing up man hours.

• Council approved a new plaque for the community hall recognizing the Alberta Lottery Fund, EnCana, Quicksilver, Gas Plus and local volunteers as contributors to recent upgrades made to the hall. This plaque will be placed in the display case in the hall foyer.

• Irricana council will meet only twice over the summer, July 19 and August 16. Council also instructed administration to invite all area developers to a supper meeting to encourage projects on the south, east, west and south sides of town.

The next meeting of Irricana council will be June 21 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers. Preceeding the regular meeting will be a public hearing regarding the Land Use Bylaw at 6:30 p.m. The draft Land Use Bylaw can be accessed on the Town’s website or can be picked up at the Town office (for a small fee). Submissions for the public hearing can be made at this meeting or anytime prior to the meeting.
