According to a City Facebook post, all occupants had evacuated safely before the arrival of fire personnel.

On the same day as the blaze, a GoFundMe page was set up for the families of the households impacted by the blaze. The link to the GoFundMe can be found here.

As of 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 9, the page had raised $930 towards a $5,000 goal.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A large house fire has broken out in the Hillcrest neighbourhood, located in southwest Airdrie. The fire started before 4:30 p.m.

According to an Airdrie Today reporter on scene, neighbouring houses can possibly expect secondhand damage from the spreading fire.

In an email, local police and fire officials said they are requesting traffic to avoid Hillcrest Terrace while efforts to contain the fire are undertaken. Those living in the Hillcrest community may experience travel delays as fire crews work to contain the fire.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
