Calgary Police Services (CPS), with the assistance of Airdrie RCMP, executed search warrants in the neighbourhood of Hillcrest June 6 in connection to a fatal shooting the night before.

According to a CPS press release, officers responded to a report of shots fired at Eau Clair Market in Calgary shortly after 8 p.m. on June 5.

"Upon arrival, we located one deceased male in an underground parkade," the release stated.

The following day, a suspect was arrested in Calgary. A residence located in Hillcrest was contained June 6 in connection with the investigation.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Airdrie RCMP sent out an email advising residents of Hillcrest Square to remain "safe inside your residence" and "not report anything you may see on social media" while the detachment responded to the "serious incident." Nearly two hours later, the detachment sent out a second email stating the operation had concluded.

"RCMP were assisting CPS with one of their investigations," the follow-up email stated. "No one was injured during this operation."

CPS executed search warrants at the residence June 7.

According to CPS' release, homicide investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack with connections to drug trafficking.

"As this continues to be an ongoing investigation, further details about what occurred during the events of Friday night will not be released at this time," the release stated.

Abdullahi Barakobe, 26, has been charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping using a firearm. He appeared in court June 8.

"We continue to search for a number of outstanding suspects and a vehicle that is believed to be connected to this investigation," CPS stated in its press release.

The vehicle, believed to have been in the Eau Claire area at the time of the shooting, is described as a white Mercedes car – possibly a C400 class.

One suspect is described as a man in his 20s with a light-brown skin tone and black hair, short in stature with a medium build. He was wearing a white hoodie.

A second suspect is described as a black man who is tall with a slim build. He was also wearing a hoodie.

A CPS spokesperson was not able to say if the two suspects had connections to Airdrie.
