Environment Canada issued a heat warning July 31 for parts of Rocky View County (RVC) and Wheatland County including Chestermere, Strathmore, Dalroy and Dalemead.
"Temperatures reaching 29 C combined with overnight lows near 14 C are expected for the next three days," the warning stated.
According to the alert, heat warnings are issued when high temperatures are expected to pose an increased risk of illnesses such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
Residents and visitors to the affected regions were warned to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat, including rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day, taking frequent breaks from the heat, checking for children and pets before leaving vehicles, staying hydrated, avoiding alcoholic and caffeinated beverages.
"Monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting and unconsciousness," the warning advised.
Particular attention should be payed to individuals that may experience earlier or more severe effects from the heat, such as infants, children, seniors and those with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental-health or diabetic conditions. Outdoor workers may also be especially susceptible.
