At a regular meeting May 6, Airdrie City council gave third reading to an amendment to the Ironwood Station Neighbourhood Structure Plan (NSP) to include the new Creekside Crossing concept plan, as well as a bylaw to close the Mackenzie Way Southwest road and transfer ownership to the developer.

The applications were both given first and second readings at a regular council meeting Feb. 4, but approval was required from the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) before council could proceed with third reading. This marks the first time Airdrie has had to submit an application for third party review against the Interim Regional Evaluation Framework mandated by the province.

“CMRB member municipalities were then given 28 days to raise any objections to the application and third party recommendation,” said Jamal Ramjohn, team lead with Planning and Development, noting none were received throughout that time. “We take that as unanimous support for that first application.”

Council passed third reading unanimously, allowing the development of a new downtown core mixed-use district to proceed as proposed.
