A dedication ceremony was held Oct. 6, at the Chestermere Regional Recreation Centre, to honour Rocky View County’s long-time commitment to the facility.
The Olympic-sized arena contained within the facility was also renamed the Rocky View County Arena.
“Rocky View County is very honoured for the dedication and grateful to the local volunteers whose commitment to the facility have made it a success,” said Reeve Lois Habberfield. “The Chestermere Regional Recreation Facility has come a long way over the years. The facility, which is managed by a very dedicated volunteer board of directors, is a true testament to community spirit and what can be achieved through cooperation between neighbours.”
Rocky View has contributed more than $5 million in funding to the regional facility, and more recently, $75,000 has been given towards facility enhancements.
“Cultivating communities is important, and communities expand across municipal boundaries,” said Habberfield, adding that rural residents in the Chestermere area often use the facility. “This facility demonstrates our commitment to regional collaboration, both in supporting shared recreation facilities and in the continuation of our partnerships with our neighbours.”
Rocky View County also holds recreation services agreements with the City of Airdrie, Village of Beiseker and Town of Crossfield.
Rocky View recently dedicated more than $2 million in funding to the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre to complete their recent expansion project. (see story on page 32)
In addition, Genesis Place in Airdrie received $1.89 million in capital funding this year. The facility will also receive operational funding over the next five years.
“Rocky View has made a real commitment to pay our share of the costs of building communities,” said Habberfield.
