Rocky View County has taken the next step towards construction of its new municipal campus.
Councillors voted unanimously, March 1, to sign a $600,000 contract with Kasian Architecture, Design and Planning Limited for a preliminary design and budget for the project.
“This has been a longtime coming and we have a definite need for it,” said Division 6 Councillor Greg Boehlke.
The assessment will be funded through a provincial grant already in place.
There are two main buildings, including an administration centre and an infrastructure and operations facility, proposed for the campus, which will be located on County-owned land east of Balzac.
Kasian Architecture, which has a resume that includes high profile, energy efficient projects such as the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Calgary Courts Centre, was chosen from 20 bidders.
The preliminary design is expected to be completed by the summer, when council will be presented with the information.
According to Julie Verch, Rocky View’s communications assistant, despite engaging in this contract, there is no guarantee the campus will be built.
“After this preliminary planning, the County will have the information they need on how, or if, they want to proceed with the project,” said Verch.
“We are not obligated to go further with this project if we choose not to.”
