Numerous charges have been laid in relation to the June 27 motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of 43-year-old Airdrie man Matthew Forseth.

Didsbury RCMP were called to the scene on Highway 22 near Range Road 43 at approximately 9:30 p.m. on June 27 after reports of a multi-vehicle incident.

According to a press release, the investigation completed by authorities indicated that a pick-up truck was travelling south on Highway 22 and attempting to pass a van when the driver lost control and struck an SUV travelling north. The truck then rolled multiple times into the oncoming northbound lane, where it struck two motorcycles.

Forseth was pronounced dead at the scene, while the adult woman riding the second motorcyle was treated for non-life-threatening injuries in hospital. The occupants of the SUV sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene.

The driver of the pick-up truck, who RCMP has identified as 25-year-old Ashley Evans from Mountain View County, was taken into custody for impaired driving following the incident. She was treated for her injuries in hospital.

An update from RCMP issued Sept. 1 indicates Evans is now being charged with impaired driving causing death, failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, failure to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop after an accident, impaired driving, and operating a motor vehicle over the legal limit.

Following a judicial interim release hearing, Evans was released on condition and is expected to appear in Didsbury Provincial Court on Sept. 20.
