Cat survives attempted drowning

Chestermere RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man who tried to throw a cat into Chestermere Lake, June 23. At about 10 a.m.

Chestermere RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man who tried to throw a cat into Chestermere Lake, June 23.

At about 10 a.m., a red older model four-door car entered John Peake Park at a high rate of speed and parked in front of the Chestermere Town Hall.

An unknown man exited the vehicle holding a cat in front of him and carried the cat towards Chestermere Lake.

The man was then observed throwing the cat into the park and almost into Chestermere Lake.

Chestermere RCMP members were called, while Town of Chestermere staff rescued the animal.

The man left the area in his vehicle and has not been located. Chestermere RCMP members went to John Peake Park, took custody of the cat and initiated an investigation.

The suspect was described as Caucasian in his mid 20s with dark curly hair, a thin beard, about six feet tall and heavy set.

The Chestermere RCMP is investigating potential charges in relation to animal cruelty. The cat is safe and staying with a Town of Chestermere employee.
