An Airdrie RCMP officer was injured when the driver of a stolen vehicle rammed his police car Oct. 17, according to police.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m., “RCMP located a parked stolen F-250 pickup in the parking lot of No Frills, located [at 1050 Yankee Valley Blvd]. When the driver saw police behind him he put the truck into drive, drove between two police cars and rear-ended a third,” according to a release from Airdrie RCMP. “The suspect then drove over a median at a high rate of speed and headed south on Highway 2.”
Calgary Police Service (CPS) HAWCS was in the area and was able to follow the stolen vehicle. Once inside city limits, Calgary Police Service members attempted to stop the truck and when the driver exited the truck, officers apprehend, according to the release.
RCMP said, Airdronian Alin Alexander Daoud, 39, was charged with 11 offences, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, assault to a police officer while resisting arrest, flight from a police officer in a vehicle and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
He has been remanded into custody and will be appearing at Airdrie Provincial Court Nov. 7 at 9:30 a.m. He will also appear in Calgary Provincial Court Nov. 6 to answer to numerous charges from CPS.
The injured RCMP officer suffered non-life threatening injuries and is home recovering, according to RCMP.
