Airdrie RCMP arrest two youths after bear spray incident in Reunion

Airdrie RCMP have charged two youth, both residents of Calgary, with two counts each of assault with a weapon, and mischief over $5,000. An additional charge of obstruction was laid on one of the males.

Airdrie RCMP arrested two Calgarian youths after a bear-spray incident in northwest Airdrie on Nov. 22.

Airdrie RCMP officers investigated a bear-spray incident in the community of Reunion on Nov. 22. 

According to RCMP, the report came in at approximately 1:30 p.m., when officers responded to the northwest community. As per a press release, "four or more suspects attended a residence and attacked two adult residents of Airdrie with bear spray."

The release went on to state the suspects "further damaged a vehicle belonging to one of the victims during the assault," before fleeing on foot and in a white Toyota Rav 4.

There was a substantial police presence in the Williamstown and Reunion neighbourhoods while police conducted the search for the vehicle and suspects, according to RCMP. Thanks to efforts of the RCMP’s Police Dog Services, Traffic Services, General Duty, General Investigation Section, with the assistance of the public, police were able to locate and arrest two suspects who had fled on foot.

Airdrie RCMP have charged two youth, both residents of Calgary, with two counts each of assault with a weapon, and mischief over $5,000. An additional charge of obstruction was laid on one of the males. Both youths are to appear in Airdrie Provincial court on Jan. 12, 2023.

The press release states Airdrie RCMP's General Investigation Section has taken carriage of the ongoing investigation.

"Police believe this to be an isolated and targeted attack," it read. "Airdrie RCMP would like to thank residents for their assistance in this investigation are asking for further assistance in locating the white Toyota Rav 4 and a dark grey Nissan Altima."
