Airdrie Fire Department crews were called to Main Street on Sept. 26, after a vehicle had reportedly collided with a commercial building.
The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m., at 304 Main Street, which is the address of the Airdrie Public Library.
"AFD responded to a vehicle which had struck a commercial building near City Hall on Main Street," stated a City of Airdrie press release. "The brick exterior of a pillar in the front of the building was damaged but the integrity of the pillar’s internal metal structure was determined to be secure and intact."
No injuries were reported, and two fire engines and seven firefighters were involved in the response.
Airdrie RCMP have since begun an incident investigation file, and the area near the collision was cordoned as a precautionary measure, according to the press release.
On Sept. 27, Airdrie Public Library's director Pamela Medland confirmed the incident occurred out front of the facility on the evening of Sept. 26. She said staff know little at the moment, but confirmed the pillar out front of the library is damaged and cordoned with yellow police tape. However, she noted the library is still open to the public.
