The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) has announced an end to its moratorium on issuing retail cannabis licences.

The organization suspended issuing new licences in November, a month after the federal government legalized cannabis, due to a shortage of the product.

On May 30, the AGLC said its supply has seen a steady increase and the suspension could now be lifted.

"Lifting the moratorium supports economic development and the success of Alberta's budding cannabis industry," stated a news release from the organization.

The AGLC will be issuing five licences a week and will keep monitoring its cannabis stocks to make sure retailers can get enough product to sell.

"Should the stability of inventory take a drastic downturn, AGLC will evaluate reinstating the moratorium," the news release stated.
