Advanced polling for the 43rd federal general election opens 9 a.m. Oct. 11, and runs through to Oct. 14.

"At the last election, more electors than ever voted early at advance polls," said Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault in a press release. "Advance polls will be open for longer hours, and there will be more advance polling stations to better serve Canadians."

Canadians can cast their ballot ahead of the Oct. 21 Election Day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time at their assigned polling station. Details on where to vote can be found on the back of your voter information card, online at elections.ca or by calling 1-800-463-6868, according to Elections Canada.

“At advance polls, electors can only vote at their assigned polling station,” the release stated. “This is different from the process in some provincial elections, where electors can vote at any polling station.”

To vote, electors must prove their identity and address. The list of accepted ID is available on the Elections Canada website, but generally, a driver's licence or any Canadian-government issued ID with your photo, name and current address is acceptable.

Electors have other advance voting options, according to the release, including voting at any Elections Canada office in Canada or by mail, using the special ballot process.

To cast a special ballot, electors must apply “as soon as possible” to ensure the voting kit reaches them and their vote is received by Elections Canada by Election Day. The deadline to apply for a special ballot is Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. Eastern time, if applying online, and 6 p.m. local time if applying to a local Elections Canada office.
