Rocky View needs a new council

Dear editor, We only have a little more than a month to collectively decide the future of the County.

Our options are essentially simple. We can keep the same crew - or at least those who are standing for re-election - and continue to watch the ever-decreasing opportunities for community input and overall deterioration of quality of life.

Or, we can elect new people who respect the wishes of the residents.

To do worse than the council we now have, a new council would really have to go out of its way and become quite inventive.

The list of current council members who have served us well, even marginally well, is extremely short - Mr. Buckley and Mr. Branson. Unfortunately, neither of these gentlemen is seeking re-election.

After what they have had to contend with over the last three years, it’s easy to see why.

To be fair, I must say the remaining seven council members have made Rocky View unique. Worldwide, governments at all levels are heeding the unanimous advice of economists by seeking ways to reduce debt.

Not here.

In their never-ending efforts to pave the county, the ‘Spending Spree Seven’ pay no attention to global economics.

Despite its drawbacks, democracy is fair.

If we re-elect them, any of them, we will get what we deserve.
