Re: “Wake up call for Airdrie taxpayers,” LTE July 23

Dear editor,

Are Airdrie residents happy “flushing their tax dollars” down the toilet? Our current mayor (and alderman) have dropped the ball when it comes to wise spending of our hard earned tax dollars.

A recent letter expertly outlined many of the “blunders” our current administration has concocted to date. The direction of this letter, however, is to outline how badly the council has neglected The Village and exactly what could happen to the area due to their neglect of updating and enforcing bylaws.

Currently, The Village residents have to put up with:

• Illegal suites in an area that is not zoned R2,

• Abandoned vehicles that make the properties look like junk yards and go a long way toward depreciating property values,

• No regulations regarding back alley trash bins or trash handling along with lax enforcement of general property maintenance,

• A lack of parking enforcement around Village schools.

It absolutely amazes me that in the upcoming election, three of our aldermen are leaving their posts and as yet, no one has announced campaigns to replace them. We need capable, dedicated and conscientious citizens to step forward and change what the current administration has put in place (or rather, not put into place). It’s time for a new mayor and council that really care about the entire city.

If you’re like-minded, we need your voices to encourage change in Airdrie.

Bobbie Norman, Airdrie
