“Family challenges” impact RVC councillor

RE: “Councillor seems to be missing in action,” letter, Nov. 20 Dear Editor, Recently, a letter from a Ms. Louise Ball, calling me out on my physical absence from council meetings and my apparent love of the “photo op,” was published in these pages. Like many baby boomers, I have aging parents – and in the last six months, both my mother and father have had significant health challenges which has required me to spend much more time with them in British Columbia than I had planned. My brother and I have had to prepare and sell their house, relocate them to more suitable lodgings and spend a great deal of time at various health care facilities. Attending to these family-related challenges is the reason why I have been physically absent. While I have been physically absent, I can assure my constituents I have been able to stay on top of things through emails and phone calls with fellow councillors, Rocky View County (RVC) administration and ratepayers. Like always, I have only been a phone call away. As far as “photo ops” are concerned, I would like to point out my family and I have a long history of sponsoring and volunteering at community events whenever possible. Although we have been active for years, it is only since I became a councillor that my picture has been taken with a little more frequency. I do not actively seek out photo opportunities, however, I do use my own social media channels to engage constituents. In closing, I would like to assure residents that, despite these family challenges, I have continued to be an active member of RVC council. Should anyone wish to discuss this or any matter further, please do not hesitate to call me and I would be happy to talk or meet you in person. Mark Kamachi Councillor, Division 1
